The Fast in preparation for the Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos runs through Monday, August 14.
During this Fast we observe the traditional fasting discipline — no meat, poultry, eggs, dairy, fish, wine, and olive oil — Monday through Friday with allowance for:
- wine and olive oil on Saturdays and Sundays
- fish on the feast of the Transfiguration, Sunday, August 6
The Paraklesis to the Theotokos is served most evenings during that period. This wonderful service of prayer and hymns honors Christ's Mother for her role in our salvation, by virtue of her holy Motherhood of the Savior and her continued maternal concern and intercession for us. As she cared for her Divine Son on earth, so she now cares for all who are adopted into His Sonship by Baptism. The Paraklesis is our cry to our Mother to assist us and all the living Faithful who find themselves in need or distress.
During the Fast the Paraklesis will be served:
- Monday through Friday at 7:00pm, and
- Sundays at 5:00pm
