Overview

If you're a lady who's been feeling left out after the Brotherhood's recent foray into the wilderness of Pennsylvania, mark your calendars for an adventure in Lancaster County on October 27th!   Not to be outdone, the women have concocted a Saturday full of fun. There will be no tractor-pulls or knife stores (try to contain your disappointment) but there will be an antique quilt museum, some local food and dry goods shops, a tour of a former Mennonite community, a visit to a 200-year-old pretzel bakery and an authentically British high tea.   Plus, leaf-peeping and the company of your dear Holy Cross sisters on the occasion of our Khouria's birthday! • 7:00 Meet at the church
  divide into groups, and drive to beautiful Lancaster County!
• 7:10 Begin singing “99 Beeswax Candles in the Basket . . . ”

  According to this esteemed organization, we will be in Lancaster County during the peak of leaf season. Bring your camera! We may make one or two stops to ooh and ahh.
• 8:30 Bird-in-Hand Farmers’ Market
  Bird-in-Hand
  Browse locally made and Amish crafts: clothing, baskets, bags, souvenirs and other goods. Purchase items for picnic lunch: breads, smoked meats, fresh cheeses, local fruits and vegetables, jams, cookies, pies and whatever else strikes your fancy! Bring a small cooler or lunch box to store your purchases.

  Shop for quilts, quilting supplies, and other local crafts and goods, or enjoy the Story Walk around the side of the store, which gives a little history of the area.

  Tour a 150-year-old pretzel bakery, try your hand at twisting your own pretzels, and buy a few to take home to your kids!

  Tour a former cloister (the Mennonite version of a monastery) and the village and cemetery attached to it. This place has a fascinating and colorful history!

  Take your pick of the dozens of shops, cafes and art galleries lining the streets of this quaint and eclectic town. Go, go, go, or sit and enjoy your “day off.”

  My goal was to book a private party at one of the authentically British tea rooms in Lancaster, but that possibility depends on our number. Consider bringing a friend or two!
