"Best of Lancaster County” Tour

September 15, 2007. Anyone who thinks that Lancaster County, Pennsylvania is only about those quaint Amish in their lace bonnets and black buggies has never experienced the real charm of this place! Here is one man’s selection of the best sights, sounds, and tastes. Even if you don’t attend our regular Saturday morning breakfast meetings, we sincerely hope you can join us for this event - and bring along a son and a friend! Times are approximate, and the itinerary may change. for more info on the day of the event.

Schedule

  • 7:30am Meet at church to carpool.
    Tim Barkley will be piloting the USS Queen Ann, which carries a crew of 15. Depending on how many show up, we will take multiple vehicles. Dads, this is your day to commandeer the family minivan. SUGGESTED DONATION: $15 for non-drivers.

    We will be visiting a working Amish farm owned and operated by Henry Zook. He sells organic produce, meat, eggs, and other products from his farm. I promised him we would make a generous donation to the school in exchange for his giving us a tour of his farm, as we are taking him away from their event. We can also purchase some of his farm products at the farm. Bring coolers!

    For a small town, Lancaster has a venerable tradition of brewing going back over 200 years, right on through Prohibition! This great brew pub is located inside a renovated tobacco warehouse, creating a very happy marriage of vegetarian pleasures.

    What better way to wrap up a perfect day than by watching the Lucas Oil East Coast Points Series Finals Truck & Tractor Pulling Event, including “Smoking Super Stock/Pro Stock Tractors, Modified 4WD Trucks, Multi-Engine Modified Tractors, Wheel standing 2WD Trucks.” This is the king of American motor sports, manly entertainment as you probably have never experienced before. You have to love loud noises, sitting on crowded old-fashioned straight bleacher seats, and inhaling the odors of high-test fuel mixed with that of the greasy french fries being consumed by the guy next to you. Here’s an interesting note: Children UNDER FIVE are admitted free!!
  • 10:30 pm Arrive back at church.
    It’s a little over an hour’s drive from Buck; depending on how we carpool, some may want to leave a little earlier, or stay until the last tractor engine melts down!
