"Come Meet the REAL Santa Clause"
This Nativity Season we are going to kick off something new, which we hope will become an annual event: The St. Nicholas Fest at Holy Cross Orthodox Church: "Come and Meet the REAL Santa Clause"
Saturday, December 4
9:00 am to 1:00 pm

Our aim is to place the emphasis on the REAL Santa Claus, through an Open House celebration of the feast of the fourth century bishop of Myra—St. Nicholas. We hope to contribute to a return to the authentic spirit of this holy season, and shift the focus from self-indulgence to acts of giving to help our families find as much fun in the giving as in the getting. Come enjoy!
- games and crafts for children
- hearing ancient Advent and Nativity music sung by our choir
- making Christmas cookies with recipes from around the world to take home and to give to some of our local area college students who are far from home at the U.S. Naval Academy and St. John's College.
We will hear many amazing stories about the real life of St. Nicholas, whose selfless love and courage went far beyond his gifts to poor children. We will even have a visit by St Nicholas! We also ask participants to join us in bringing stocking stuffer gifts to give to NCEON (North County Emergency Outreach Network). We are especially looking for stocking stuffer items for teens, an age group often overlooked in charitable Christmas giving. For those are interested and who have never seen the unusual interior of an Orthodox Christian church, tours of the church temple will also be offered.
For those who want a deeper understanding of St. Nicholas and his historic defense of the Faith, we invite you to a presentation later that day, following our evening vespers service at 6:00p.m.
Fest Schedule
- 9:00 am Prayer to Open the Fest, followed by opening of all booths downstairs; greeters & tours with Q & A upstairs
- 10:20 am Story of St. Nicholas for children, downstairs and visit by St. Nicholas
- 10:45 am Choir to sing upstairs, with introduction by Fr. Gregory
- 11:00 am Story of St. Nicholas more in depth
- 11:20 am Tours with Q & A
- 11:5O pm Story of St. Nicholas for children- downstairs and visit by St. Nicholas
- 12:15 pm Choir to sing upstairs, with introduction by Fr. Gregory
- 12:30 pm Story of St. Nicholas more in depth
- 12:50 pm Tours with Q & A upstairs
